Root Canal Therapy and Endodontics
“Root canals” get a bad reputation- but at Dentila, we perform this essential procedure quickly with just one visit to our comfortable dental office. Root canals alleviate pain and preserve your teeth from extraction.
Our experienced dentists, Dr. Castro and Dr. Morales, have been practicing dentistry for over ten years. They serve the greater Orlando community, including families in Conway, Azalea Park, and Orlovista.
What is Root Canal Therapy?
Also known as endodontic therapy, this procedure saves infected teeth from extraction. A toothache results when bacteria invade the inner chamber of the tooth, a space full of sensitive tissue comprised of nerves. This space is known as the pulp. The pulp connects to the gums through the roots, thus infection can spread to multiple teeth if not treated in a timely manner.
Root canal therapy begins with the administration of anesthesia. At Dentila, we ensure our patients remain comfortable during their procedure. Next, we access the inner chamber through the crown of the infected tooth. After the compromised pulp material is removed, it is replaced with a body-safe filling and capped with a crown.
It is important to catch tooth infections early, so they can be treated in a timely manner. Be on the lookout for these symptoms of a compromised root canal:
- Tenderness at the bottom of the teeth, near the root
- Sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures
- Painful biting
- Spontaneous pain from no apparent stimuli
A crown must be placed over the tooth to complete endodontic therapy. This ensures the tooth is strong enough for everyday use and is protected from bacteria. With our CEREC machine, we can design, mill, and fabricate a crown in just over an hour. This means the entirety of a root canal therapy procedure can be completed in one office visit. No longer do patients need a temporary crown or a second appointment.
At our Orlando dental practice, we believe the health of our patients is a top priority. Our root canal therapy procedures are performed by gentle, caring dentists with a passion for oral health. Endodontic therapy from Dentila is effective in treating infection and preventing further decay.
